FAMILY CAREGIVER TRAINING & SUPPORT GROUP

Family Caregiver Training Program

Helpline offers FREE educational training to family members who are caring for a loved one. Whether you are a husband caring for your wife who is suffering from cancer, a friend looking after a neighbor with Alzheimer's disease, or an adult child caring for your aging parent(s), these educational training sessions are designed for you.

This program is funded through the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and administered through the Alliance for Aging of Miami-Dade & Monroe Counties. The objective of this program is to educate family members on how they can provide appropriate care for the care receivers, allowing them to remain in the home environment for as long as possible.

The Benefits

The benefits of this training are twofold in that:

1. The care receivers may be happier and more comfortable in a home environment with familiar surroundings, and

2. The costs associated with caring for a loved one in the home environment are minimal when compared to other facility-based centers.

Sessions are currently focused on the nursing skills required by family caregivers so that they feel comfortable providing basic nursing care, and learningthe techniques to effectively and safely transfer loved ones.
